Hello, Third Period!

For your ORB written assignment, I am requiring you to make three postings to this blog about your ORB. You must choose three different options from the "blogging options" handout (on First Class). I am looking for your commentary, which should make obvious why your ORB "educates your conscience."

Please, adhere to the expectations explained on the rubric (also on First Class).

Happy blogging!

August Acrostic- The Secret Life of Bees

*SPOILER ALERT*

Always there for her loved ones, August has a caring heart and has open arms for anyone that needs her. She gives great advice and knows how to handle any situation she faces. August is a loving figure that will always strive to do what is right.

Under immense pressure, August still possesses grace in the hardest times. When May dies, August mourns quietly and doesn't disturb or sadden others with the gloominess that she feels. She understands that it isn’t right to bring others down with you.

Gentle and caring, August is like the motherly figure Lily never had. August accepts Lily even though she is a white girl and a perfect stranger. August lets Lily tell her lies, even when she knows what Lily is saying to her isn’t true. August constantly tries to guide Lily in the right direction, but in a way that does not embarrass Lily. She nurtures Lily like a loving mother would.

Uplifting towards everyone, August makes people feel comfortable no matter what. Unlike June who wasn’t welcoming to Lily at first, August reaches out a hand and includes Lily like she is part of the family. She takes things as they come, and doesn’t hesitate to be kind or thoughtful.

Sophisticated and mature, August knows what life is really about. She is content with how she lives her life and isn’t concerned about what others might think about her. Lily could learn from her wise ways and realize that “some things don’t matter that much, Lily. Like the color of a house. How big is that in the overall scheme of life? But lifting a person’s heart- now, that matters” (147).

The reason August is so special is because she lives life being the best person that she can. She is always thoughtful, and considers other people’s needs before her own. She treats every person she meets with respect and kindness. She doesn’t sail through life without a care. She thinks about how to act and to live life as a better person. August is like a motherly figure to Lily, but she also acts like a Christ figure to everyone else around her.
